How to play pool well?

Sorry but this blog post will be in English :)

Playing pool is one of my favorite things to do when I have free time.
But it's not as easy as it might sound. Because if you really want to play well you need to be dedicated and spend lots of time and effort. And it always is, you need lots of practice. Only practice can help you get better.

Another very important factor is who do you play with. If you keep playing with bad players you will probably not learn anything. So if you want to improve try to play with people who are better than yourself.

Pool is a kind of billiards game. And in general billiards is one of the most complex games to play. To play it well you need to know things such as cut shots, bank shots and some other fundamental aspects of billiards.

The first thing to do is to develop a consistent and smooth cue shot. The reason is that every game begins with a cue shot and basically that's how you play this game.
For obtaining smooth shot you should make sure that your hand on the table is placed strong and stable. Make sure that when you make the shot your hand doesn't shake or change its position. Let the cue slide through your hand smoothly.

Next there are several things you need to know to start playing pool or as some people call it pocket-ball.

Body position

The body position must be stable and comfortable one. This means :

• When you point white the ball
• When you swing the cue
• When you hit the white ball

Start with :

• Your feet and shoulders should have the same width
• Take one step forward your leaning foot
• Put your chess in a parallel direction to the floor
• Put the cue on your leaning hand
• Look straight over the cue

Holding the cue

Use one hand to lean the cue on (leaning hand). The other is use to swing the cue (calling hand).

How to know which is your leaning and calling hand :

• Point at something far away with you right index-finger.
• Close your left eye

(1) If your finger point straight on : your leaning hand is the left and you swing cue with your right. (2) If your finger point left : your leaning hand is the right and you swing the cue with the left one.

How to position your leaning hand :

• Put a beer cap on billiard table :-)
• Hide it with your hand
• Open your three externals fingers
• Lift-up your end thumb
• Put the cue between thumb and the knuckles of index-finger (lean point)

Grip must be loose

How to swing the cue :

• Put the cue on your lean point
• The end of the cue must be 6" from your hand
• Hang the cue at the waist level

Hitting the white ball

Place the tip of your cue about four inches away from the ball. Then position the cue on your leaning hand. Strike the ball exactly in the center with the cue.

When you strike, nothing but your arm should move. Be sure to hold your body still.

That's it ! Congratulations !
